Opaque finishes are the traditional finish choices for coloring metal and protecting it from rusting and marring.They provide a full covering of the metal and do not provide a window to the metal beneath that translucent finishes afford. The choice between Opaque and Translucent finishes is an individual preference.

Translucent finishes provide a window to the metal beneath. allowing the full story to be told of how each piece was made. There will be a darker appearance when applied over areas that are distressed.by both heat and the work of the craftsmen, reflecting the temper, colors, scaling, hammering and bending. On open areas of bar or sheet, such as a back plate, the the finish is lighter deliberately uneven, with the depth of hue varying by the thickness of the applied material.
