in the North Palor of the Sheldon-Hawks
House at Historic Deerfield. Probably
from New England, it
is noteworthy for
the baluster-turned
shaft painteda cherry
color and for the
bobeches highlighted
with stylized
petals.
This adaptationfeatures
two tiers
of four candle
arms each,providesadditional
illumination. 
Once
rather simple,chandeliers became intricatestatments of taste during theeighteenth century. theirwood-turned balusterssupported
thin iron arms, octopus
fashion, on
the endsof
which perched the candlesin bobeches.
From primitiveto
elaborate settings, it was not long
before
they were the
